What’s VOIP all about?
How does VOIP work?
We see that question a lot, so here’s an outline of how it works. The main concept is that you save at home and in your business by calling through the internet (VOIP = Voice Over Internet Protocol).
- Use any phone system (some companies have restrictions, so be sure to compare).
- Get an adapter box from your selected company — this allows you to hook in your phones.
- Connect the adapter to your modem/router system.
- Your voice travels in “data packets” over the internet.
- Your service provider “routes” (guides your voice data packets) through the system to help maintain clarity and reliability.
- Depending on the service you use, you can call any number in the world — land lines, cellular, fax and other VOIP users.
